JCM 8.0 – 70 booster pump from Ningbo Cheer Pump Co. These are good quality, multi-stage DC centrifugal pumps with a brushless DC motor. Voltage range is 90-120VDC (150V max). At least 1000W of input is recommended. This pump is suitable for surface water applications, it is NOT a submersible well pump.
We have seen many people try to run AC “shallow well” or “jet pumps” with batteries and inverters. These are single stage impeller pumps, which draw a lot of power and run very inefficiently. We have seen several off-grid water systems that failed when they tried to use this approach in cloudy climates or with aged batteries.
There are American and European-made DC pumps that work well, but they cost thousands of dollars. We have found a much more effective, and affordable solution with the these multistage booster pumps. Their performance is much, much better than shallow well or jet pumps, both in terms of efficiency and in terms of pressure output. The “70” in the model number corresponds to “”meters of head.” That means these pumps can put out well over 100 psi. These pumps will dramatically out-perform shallow well or jet pumps in low-power conditions. And the bang for the buck is great. The JCM 8.0 – 70 is a centrifugal pump, which means it will last for many years. We recommend protecting it with a surge arrestor. Also keep in mind that more water storage will provide you with better water service and help the pump start and stop less often. One should also make sure that the JCM 8.0 – 70 does not run dry.
